Anschließend war er bis 1856 als Eisenbahn- und Hochbauingenieur in Bayern tätig und wechselte in diesem Jahr als Ingenieur I. Klasse nach Österreich zur Kaiserin-Elisabeth-Westbahn. Sein erster Wohnsitz in den Jahren von 1856 bis 1858 war Salzburg. Dort wurde auch Siegmund von Lössl geboren (eines seiner 10 Kinder), der später bayerischer Staatsrat in München wurde. Lössl übersiedelte anschließend nach Linz, Oberösterreich, dann für ein Jahr nach Immenstadt, Allgäu, Bayern, und schließlich nach Wien, von wo aus er seinen Altershauptwohnsitz nach Aussee (das erst seit 1911 Bad Aussee heißt) verlegte. 1907 starb er an einer Lungenentzündung in Wien, kurz vor einer geplanten Abreise nach Aussee.
